The Netherlands has had various nuclear reactors since the 1960s. The Borssele nuclear power plant has been operating since 1973, providing electricity day and night. Additionally, nuclear reactors are used for research and to produce medical isotopes for use in hospitals. The Borssele nuclear power plant generates 485 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The two new nuclear power plants we plan to build will each generate at least 1,000 MW of electricity.
